During the last 3-4 years the Glass and Glazing Federation (GGF) and other leading window film manufacturers have been putting forward their views, to obtain a clear definition on the law of window tinting. They have argued that a window film of light transmission 50 percent is a safe level of tint. However despite their attempts to have this installed as part of the tinting laws, as of January 2004 the government has rewritten the law to incorporate a tint level of seventy percent visible light transmission on the front driver and passenger side windows. Vehicles 10 years and older already have this level of tint is manufactured within the glass from the vehicle manufacturers. This means that if any window tinting company or manufacturer installs films to the front driver or passenger side windows or front quarter windows, they are in infringement of the law.
Authorities will be taking a sympathetic view to motorists who had their front driver or passenger side-windows tinted before the January 2004. Mobile Car Tinting are offering all previous customers the opportunity to have any window films previously installed, to be removed. Then legal tint films can be applied if the customer so wishes. www.tintremoval.co.uk
